World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s Emergency Relief Work for Southern Thailand Flooding

7 January, 2017 World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) started fundraising to help survivors of the flooding in southern Thailand, particularly in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, which is one of the worst-hit areas.

8 January, 2017 WVFT provided urgent help to people who are affected by the flooding in Chien Yai, Hua Sai, Chalerm Prakiat and Pak Panung districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Rain continues to pour down in the area while the water level remains high, exacerbated by high tide and run-off from Cha-Uad district. The situation requires close monitoring. WVFT has given away 30,000 bottles of drinking water and has prepared relief bags for distribution directly to the affected households. Every donation make a difference to their lives.

9 January, 2017 Food and drinking water being essential items for disaster survivors, WVFT has collaborated with Mae Chao Yu Hua sub-district administrative organisation in Chienyai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province set up communal kitchen. Kindhearted villagers arrived at the kitchen to help since early morning. Some arranged the place, others prepared water bottles and food ingredients as well as cooked them into fresh meals, which were packed into boxes for distribution to the survivors. Thank you for your generosity in helping those who are going through the worst floods in many decades.

10 January, 2017 WVFT has passed on your generosity to those affected by the flood. Instant noodles, canned fish, survival kits and water bottles are packed together into relief bags. The bags are distributed to the people in need at temporary shelters in Klong Noi municipality, Pak Panung district and Tang Poon municipality, Chalerm Prakiat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Your generosity is delivered to the survivors through cars and boats, reaching even those who are stranded in their house as the water has besieged their properties in Chien Khao and Don Tron sub-districts, Chalerm Prakiat district.

11 January, 2017 Child Friendly Space inside the Thang Phoon municipality’s temporary shelter in Chaloem Phra Kiat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province is another initiative set up by World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) to alleviate the trauma children experienced from the flooding. Children convene at the space to play and learn together. Thang Phoon municipality is extensively affected by the floods, with water level as high as 3 metres. More than 100 families had to evacuate their homes and stay at the temporary shelter, which is located on a higher ground. They are receiving basic provisions at the temporary shelters, such as food and drinking water, but the people of Nakhon Si Thammarat province still need your help to go through this flood crisis.

12 January, 2017 A Word of Thank as Help Reaches the Flood-Stricken People in Southern Thailand for the Second Time This time the flooding is more severe than the first because it completely submerged the house of Madeemo or Jaed, a community volunteer from Sa Plaeng ADP, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Although the flooding has struck the area for the second time, World Vision Foundation of Thailand continues to distribute 120 relief bags to the hands of those in Moo 2 of Than Poon Municipality, Chalerm Prakiat district. No matter the severity of the flood, we remain committed in delivering your generosity to those who need it most at times of disaster. Click for more video

A drop of generosity from donors to people in the south. The flood in Sathing Phra district, Songkhla province remains critical, with the water level still as high as 1.20 metre. With many locals still lacking the basic necessities to survive, World Vision Foundation of Thailand distributed 5,860 relief bags, each packed with 5 kg of rice, vegetable oil and dry food, to the flood-stricken people in Sathing Phra and Krasae Sin districts from 16-17 January 2017. Our prayers go those who are affected by the flood to overcome this crisis.
