'Natthida' Youth Volunteer to Develop Hometown (Read in Thai)

“Natthida” or nicknamed “Benz” is a 15 years Thai Mon girl. Even though she is studying in grade 9, the girl can speak fluently with her lively smile and the eyes that reflect self-confidence and overflowing creative power.

Natthida has grown up in Sangkhla Buri district in a family that consists of Natthida's parents and another sister. Though they are impoverished but this is a warm family. Parents work hard to raise their children. And being a child under “Child Sponsorship Programme” by World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) and the sponsor, who kindly help Natthida and her family, has supported the girl to grow up by receiving the educational opportunity and the chance to develop life skills consistently. These things gradually change a shy girl to become the young girl with creative assertiveness eventually.

“I have attended a lot of activities that organized by WVFT such as the Brotherly Teaching Activity that has given me the knowledge, leadership development, teaching techniques and the techniques to create motivation in learning Thai Language. The training by WVFT has supported me to be confident to express myself and is able to teach children in elementary school to be more fluent in reading and writing. I also have learnt about the positive sexuality and reproductive health in adolescents, and have been developed the leadership skills for youth. I have brought the knowledge to use in daily life and grouped with friends who also have been trained to be the youth leaders to pass on the knowledge to other friends in school and also process the development activities. It takes time for me to be confident in speaking and doing as today. I used to be very shy at the first time (laughed) but the WVFT staffs have trained me to be more confident,” Natthida proudly explained.

The confidence and creative assertiveness that Natthida has fulfilled, brought the girl to join various activities in addition to attentive studying. She is a member of the Student Council making creative activities in school and in the community nearby until the Student Council of Watwangwiwakaram School, Natthida’s school, has won the first prize in the 67th competition of Student Council Activities, Educational Service Area, in 2017 academic year.

One of the activities that Natthida is proud is being a member of “The Volunteer Project to Do Goodness, Watwangwiwakaram School” which was chosen as 1 of 12 prototype projects from “She is Inspiration” project, in the 8th year of competition with 346 projects from secondary schools nationwide.

“I have to thank my sponsor very much. The kindness of the sponsor has created a bright opportunity for me and has given me and friends the knowledge from various activities organized by WVFT to develop myself. I will bring the knowledge to develop my future and to develop my hometown also,” Natthida smiled broadly.
