Clinic Prof. Emeritus Dr.Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Honourable Minister of Public Health presided over the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to end tuberculosis in Thailand at Chaiyanatnariantorn meeting room, second floor of Public Health Ministry Building 1 recently. The MOU signing took place between the Public Health Ministry and 18 organisations comprising state agencies, education institutions and private organisations. Among them is World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT), represented by National Director, Mrs Chitra Thumborisuth.
The MOU addresses 5 important issues including 1) the establishment of Thailand Tuberculosis Research Network (ThaiTuRN) in accordance with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) End TB global strategy, for which Thailand is 1 of the 7 pilot countries selected by WHO 2) the updating of guidelines on tuberculosis to be in line with WHO’s End TB global strategy and Thailand’s context, 3) capacitating human resources specialising in health to increase the quality and efficiency in preventing, diagnosing and treating tuberculosis to meet international standards 4) increase the capacity of autopsy and diagnosis laboratory and 5) promote the tuberculosis prevention and containment plans to curb the spread of tuberculosis in communities, hospitals and risk groups.
