World Vision Foundation of Thailand Joins Forces with HSBC Thailand to Accelerate Recovery for People Affected by Southern Floods in 2025

Rebuilding strong foundations in public health and education so that children, families, and communities in Southern Thailand can better withstand and adapt to future challenges

On 13 March 2026, World Vision Foundation of Thailand, in collaboration with HSBC Thailand, handed over an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine to Hatyai Hospital, Songkhla Province. The donation aims to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide medical care and enhance the readiness of the local public health system. This initiative is part of the organisations’ commitment to support and restore flood-affected areas in the South following the severe flooding that struck in late 2025. The donation was made possible through HSBC Thailand’s contribution of 3.35 million baht to World Vision Foundation of Thailand.

The handover ceremony was honoured by the presence of Mr Von Nonsrichai, Chief Operating Officer at HSBC Thailand; Dr Prawit Wannaro, Deputy Director of Medical Services at Hatyai Hospital; Mrs Rosalin Kowae, National Director of World Vision Foundation of Thailand; as well as hospital executives, World Vision Foundation of Thailand staff, and distinguished guests.

Mr Von Nonsrichai, Chief Operating Officer at HSBC Thailand

“As the first commercial bank in Thailand, supporting the Thai economy and its people for more than 137 years, HSBC places utmost importance on standing by the Thai people, especially during times of crisis. Whenever natural disasters disrupt people’s lives and livelihoods, we are determined to support efforts that help affected communities overcome hardship and return to normalcy as quickly as possible.

In 2024, we provided emergency assistance to more than 1,850 flood-affected families in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Following the major floods in the South last year, HSBC Thailand donated 3,350,000 baht through World Vision Foundation of Thailand to support affected people and communities in Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Narathiwat.

In particular, in Songkhla Province, we recognised the urgent needs arising from the large number of affected people. The donation of the ECG machine to Hatyai Hospital is a tangible contribution to strengthening medical services in the Hat Yai and Sathing Phra districts.

Finally, HSBC Thailand extends our heartfelt support to the people of Hat Yai, Sathing Phra, and all communities in the South. We hope our assistance will serve as one of the key mechanisms enabling families to rebuild and return to their normal lives.”

The handover of the ECG machine to Hatyai Hospital is part of the Southern Post-Floods Recovery 2025 Project, implemented by World Vision Foundation of Thailand with the collaboration of supporters, communities, schools, local administrative organisations, and government agencies in Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Narathiwat.

The project focuses on supporting households affected by the floods. As of late January 2026, World Vision Foundation of Thailand had already distributed relief items to more than 1,700 households, reaching over 6,800 people, including over 3,400 children.

In addition to emergency relief, World Vision Foundation of Thailand continues to support the recovery of children, families, communities, and schools across multiple sectors—including livelihoods, education, health and nutrition, and child protection. This includes providing essential learning materials, repairing damaged schools and childcare centres, and supplying medical equipment—such as the device handed over in this ceremony—to improve healthcare services in affected areas.

Mrs Rosalin Kowae, National Director of World Vision Foundation of Thailand

“Communities are becoming increasingly more vulnerable as disasters grow more frequent and severe each year. The recent flooding in several provinces in both the North and the South clearly reflects this reality.

During our field visits, many community members shared that they had never anticipated such extensive damage, leaving them unprepared and severely affected. In the emergency response phase, World Vision Foundation of Thailand conducted rapid needs assessments and provided emergency support, including food, drinking water, and essential items for displaced families in evacuation centres.

During the recovery phase, we worked with HSBC Thailand to restore schools and communities and provide essential equipment to hospitals, which is vital for people’s well-being and access to medical services.”

HSBC Thailand has also provided ongoing support to Songkhla Province across completed and ongoing initiatives. These include donating two ventilators to Songklanagarind Hospital; restoring 16 flood-affected schools and childcare centres in Hat Yai and Sathing Phra districts; and repairing homes and providing emergency supplies for affected families.

Kittisak, a World Vision Thailand youth leader in Songkhla, said:

“I am truly honoured to be part of World Vision Foundation of Thailand family. I would like to thank HSBC Thailand for their vital support today, from providing student desks and chairs and essential learning materials to joining us in improving the school landscape and environment. These efforts directly contribute to better learning opportunities for children in our community.

Without collective support, activities like these would not be possible. I am deeply grateful to all organisations involved, and I hope this strong partnership will continue to strengthen and uplift our community. Thank you very much.”

The partnership between World Vision Foundation of Thailand and HSBC Thailand is not only a short-term relief effort but also an investment in rebuilding strong public health and education systems—empowering children, families, and communities in Southern Thailand to face future challenges with confidence and resilience.

“World Vision Foundation of Thailand would like to express our sincere gratitude to HSBC Thailand for recognising the importance of sustainable development and for partnering with us to support flood-affected communities. We hope the collective efforts of all partners will help communities in Songkhla, Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and across the South recover and return to normalcy soon.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the hospitals and all agencies that joined us today. It is an honour to work alongside you in supporting community recovery,” concluded Mrs Rosalin Kowae.
