In July 2026, World Vision Foundation of Thailand, in partnership with the Kham Takla Development Project, government partners, community leaders, and local residents, continued its commitment to child protection and development. This was achieved through the handover of homes in the ‘Baan Pun Sook Phuea Nong’ project to a foster family affected by a fire in Kham Takla District, Sakon Nakhon Province. The initiative aims to help restore their quality of life, reduce household vulnerability, and create a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow.
The house handover ceremony was presided over by Mr. Parin Nithaseak, Deputy Governor of Sakon Nakhon, and was attended by Mr. Nopporn Chantharasena, District Officer of Kham Takla District; Mr. Arthit Donkhan, Project Manager for the Sakon Nakhon Province Development Project; officers; representatives of partner agencies; heads of government agencies; community leaders; and local residents, all demonstrating their collective support for families affected by the disaster.
Systematic Emergency Response and Household Recovery
Following the fire, which left the foster family without a home and without essential belongings, the World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s Kham Takla Development Project assessed the household’s immediate needs and approved a special budget to provide construction materials for rebuilding their home, as well as essential consumer goods to support them during the transition.
This initiative reflects the Foundation’s holistic approach to assisting children and families, focusing on building stability in housing, safety, and adequate living conditions – all crucial for long-term child development.
Community Power: A Key Mechanism for Sustainability
The success of building the new house wasn’t solely due to financial support, but to the collaborative effort of the entire community – including donors to the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, government agencies, local leaders, volunteers, and residents who contributed their time, energy, and resources to complete the project.
Mr. Boonhome, the homeowner and victim of the fire, described the devastating moment, saying the fire spread quickly and intensely on the day of the incident, leaving no time to salvage any possessions. Despite the best efforts of neighbors to help, they were unable to control the blaze, and the house was completely destroyed by the time firefighters arrived, rendering it uninhabitable.
However, with help from the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, government agencies, community leaders, and local residents, the family was able to rebuild their lives.
“I am very happy and deeply grateful to receive this house. Thank you to the World Vision Foundation of Thailand and to everyone who helped make this possible, including government agencies, partner organizations, community leaders, the village headman, and all the villagers who worked together to build this home. Thanks to your collective efforts, my family and I have a secure place to live once again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Nong Pornpimol, a child under the care of the World Vision Foundation of Thailand and affected by the incident, said she was very shocked, worried, and saddened when she learned her house had burned down while she was at school, as she did not know how her family would manage.
Today, this new home—built through the collaboration of many parties—has become a vital source of hope and encouragement for the family.
“I am so happy to see our new home. It’s beautiful and very spacious. Thank you to Ekkathai Chansue, the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, the local government, community leaders, and everyone who helped build this house. It means my family and I can finally live together again. Thank you all for giving my family this opportunity and your support.”
This new home is not only a stable and safe residence for the family, but also the result of strengthened social capital and community involvement – key components in building a robust child and family protection system at the local level.

The project received construction funding through the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, alongside contributions from local government and the cooperation of community leaders, volunteers, and residents. Their collective efforts and spirit of giving culminated in the completion of the new house, providing a foundation for a stable future for the family.
