Every child deserves to grow up in a community that nurtures learning, offers opportunities, and provides activities that broaden their world and help them reach their full potential. When children learn according to their developmental stage and receive proper support, they grow into healthy, self-reliant adults. This is the vision that World Vision Foundation of Thailand has always been committed to and continues to uphold.
The story of ‘Teacher Orn-uma Kaewprasert,’ a former sponsored child, is a powerful reflection of that vision.
Looking back on her childhood, Orn-uma used to enjoy playing teacher with her friends. Her dream was sparked by those childhood games—a small dream of one day becoming a teacher to share knowledge with others
Orn-uma is of Khmu ethnicity. Her father was a devoted pastor who dedicated his life to serving God. Despite having no income from his ministry, he worked tirelessly in the cornfields to support the family. Given their modest circumstances, the dream of pursuing higher education—or even becoming a teacher—seemed far out of reach.
“As a child, I had to wear the same school uniform until it was worn out, torn, or too tight to wear,” Orn-uma recalls with a smile tinged with memory. “But everything changed when I was sponsored in Grade 3. I got new uniforms, shoes, and school supplies every year. I received continuous support until I graduated.”
That was the turning point in her life. The little girl who once lacked access to education grew steadily along the path of learning. Today, she has become ‘Teacher Orauma’, a dedicated teacher at Ban Mueang Kan School, determined to pass on the opportunity she once received to children in this remote area.
“I was once given a chance. Now, as a teacher, I will use that knowledge and opportunity to give back to children to the best of my ability—because every child deserves a quality education, even in the most remote area.“
Because sponsorship is a seed of hope that grows into the life force that shapes a child’s future.
