On 20 November, recognised by the United Nations as World Children’s Day, World Vision Foundation of Thailand organised an internal campaign to celebrate this important occasion. The event aimed to build understanding and collaboration in safeguarding children’s rights across all dimensions, with full staff participation across the organisation.
World Children’s Day, designated by the United Nations, promotes children’s rights and welfare worldwide. It stems from a UN General Assembly resolution and marks the day the UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. Thailand ratified the Convention on 12 February 1992.
The event had three main objectives:
- To enhance staff knowledge and understanding of child rights while reflecting the organisation’s role in child protection
- To promote child and youth participation in activities aligned with child rights
- To create a social movement within the organisation to advance child rights and celebrate this day meaningfully
The atmosphere was warm, lively, and inspiring. Staff received information on the Convention on the Rights of the Child and enthusiastically took part in a child rights quiz to win prizes. Speakers shared insights and real-life examples of situations where children need protection, such as physical, emotional, and online bullying—acts that violate child rights and affect well-being and development. Staff were reminded of their vital role in observing and reporting such cases to ensure children receive appropriate and safe support.
World Vision Foundation of Thailand has initiatives that support children in many areas, including the Breakfast for Kidsproject, health projects, stateless children projects, Child Sponsorship programme, livelihood promotion, and the Bachelor’s Degree Programme. We also support training to build child protection capacity and have established World Vision Foundation of Thailand Child and Youth Council, providing a platform for young people nationwide to showcase their potential and propose policy recommendations for their future.
One highlight of the event was the activity “Creating a Land of Child Protection”, where participants used modelling clay to represent their roles in promoting child rights both at work and in daily life. Each group also created five “Promises” to protect children’s rights together. This activity was not only fun but also reflected genuine collaboration across the organisation. The event concluded with photos of the creations shared on social media with hashtags #WorldChildrenDayWVFT2025 #WorldChildrenDay2025 to inspire continued action.
Alonzo Lee, Ministry Quality and Impact Division Manager, stated: “The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) aims to ensure that every child worldwide enjoys fundamental rights equally, with dignity and respect. Countries that ratify the Convention must implement measures to protect child rights and report progress regularly—and Thailand is one of them.”
“Working for child rights is not solely governments’ responsibility; it requires collaboration from various organisations, including World Vision Foundation of Thailand, which is committed to making every initiative address child rights issues seriously by working with children, families, and communities,” he concluded.
This World Children’s Day event was not just a celebration but an important opportunity to deepen understanding of child rights in all dimensions and reaffirm World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s ongoing role in protecting and safeguarding children. It reminds us that respecting child rights must happen every day, not just once a year, so that every child is truly treated with equality and dignity.
