In remote communities in Chat Trakan District, Phitsanulok Province, people have long faced challenges in accessing water for daily use. Climate change has brought unpredictable conditions—some years, heavy rainfall during the monsoon season causes flash floods that damage homes, while in the dry season, people struggle with water shortages.
Kanchana, mother of Bow, a sponsored child supported by World Vision Foundation of Thailand, is among the many families affected by this situation. She shared: “Our family rely on water from the community water supply. Some years, we face drought. The water stops running because too many households use it simultaneously. It’s very difficult.”
To cope with the problem, the family often had to travel long distances to fetch water from neighbouring villages just to meet their basic needs. It is an exhausting task that affects their quality of life, health, and overall family well-being.
Because water is life, another family facing similar hardship is that of Wipada, mother of eight‑year‑old Kluayhom, also a sponsored child. She explained: “We don’t have access to any water system. We use water from a borehole, but we don’t have a storage tank. During the dry season, the groundwater level drops and there simply isn’t enough water.”
The lack of water security forces families to constantly adjust their daily routines—especially in the dry season, when water becomes the hardest resource to access.
To help ensure that children and their families have access to clean water when necessary, World Vision Foundation of Thailand has provided water storage tanks to sponsored children’s households through the “Gift Catalogue” initiative. The tanks help increase water reserves and ease the difficulties families face during periods of shortage.
Kanchana said with heartfelt gratitude, “The water tank we received today will help us store water for those times when we don’t have enough. Some years the water dries up completely. This tank will truly be a great help to our family.”
Wipada added, “My daughter has been a sponsored child for about a year now. The support we’ve received has really eased our family’s burden. The school uniform and learning materials are genuinely useful and allow Kluayhom to continue her studies. Now we’ve also received a water tank, which our family really needs. Thank you so much.”
World Vision Foundation of Thailand continues driving our ministry towards sustainable development. This water storage support not only offers immediate relief but also reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to working in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the promotion of Good Health and Well‑being (SDG 3) by strengthening household-level water security, and enhancing access to Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) so that all children, families, and communities can rely on safe, clean water.
Furthermore, improving water access helps build community resilience to the impacts of climate change (SDG 13)—especially as the areas increasingly experience both flooding during the rainy season and drought during the dry months.
All these efforts reflect World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s dedication to creating sustainable, meaningful change for children, families, and communities—so that everyone can enjoy a better quality of life and grow in a society that is ready to face future challenges.
